Safeguarding

At York City Church, we are committed to creating a church where everyone, regardless of age or background, feels safe, valued, and supported. Safeguarding is not just about protecting specific groups; it is about ensuring that our whole church community is a place of care, respect, and trust.

Jesus calls us to love one another, to look out for the most vulnerable, and to build a community where all can feel safe and supported. That’s why we take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously, making sure York City Church remains a place of welcome and protection for all.

Safeguarding is the responsibility of our whole church family. Whether you’re a visitor, a regular member, or part of our leadership team, we all have a role to play in nurturing a culture of safety and respect. This means being attentive to one another’s wellbeing, knowing how to respond to concerns, and working together to uphold the highest standards of care.

As a church, we are committed to following best practices in safeguarding, working closely with thirtyone:eight to ensure the right policies, training, and support are in place.

At York City Church we are committed to:

  • Promoting a safer environment and culture.
  • Safely recruiting and supporting all those with responsibility related to children, young people and vulnerable adults within the church.
  • Responding promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation.
  • Caring pastorally for victims/survivors of abuse and other affected persons.
  • Caring pastorally for those who are the subject of abuse and other affected persons.
  • Responding to those who may pose a present risk to others.
